Minutes of the Elevenses Meeting of the Pembroke College Winnie-the-Pooh Society
held in room G3, St. Michael’s court, Caius College, on Saturday 17th May 1998

Present: Anfony, Michael, Jenny, Stephen, Rob, Andrew, Kirsten, Oliver, Ben, (the) James, James “an outsider”, Henry, Chris Emmerson, Yasmin, Richard, Claire.
Apologies: Sibylle

  1. The meeting is opened in Henry’s room at 4 o’clock.

  2. Ben introduces us all to James. Despite this, James chooses not to run away and never come back.

  3. James reads the minutes, with the traditional confusion about “(the) James”, and how to pronounce “Sibylle”.

  4. Henry has teaspoons.

  5. Will the floor support the weight of all of us in the room at once? If not we are liable to end up in “French Connection”, a shop below us, apparently.

  6. Oliver is wearing handcuffs...

  7. Ben announces that the garden party will be at 3pm on Monday 15th June.

  8. It is noted that (approximately) 1/7th of out lives take place on a Thursday.

  9. Claire applies for membership. She is supported by Ben while we vote.
With 3 votes against, Claire becomes a member and pays her Pooh Levy. Though it seems Jenny hasn’t had chance to get the treasury off Vicky yet.

  10. Rob insists on his mug being filled first.

  11. We vote that James be allowed to vote, and he makes Ribena berry noises to celebrate.

  12. The T-shirts are coming. They will cost about £7, we should bring the money next week. Rob will see Mark Wormald about using the college crest on the shirts.

  13. Anfony is censured for saying that the poetry of AA Milne is rubbish.

  14. Anfony reads a poem about tarts in honour of all the cakes we eat.

  15. Vote to un-censure Anfony. Perhaps luckily for the purposes of minuting the meeting, this motion is defeated.

  16. Ben goes to find James, who had been at the door but has now disappeared.

  17. James is found.

  18. We decide to invite Her Majesty the Queen to the garden party. Oliver makes treasonous comments.

  19. Colin Wilcockson, Kit Smart, Lady Tomkys and Lucky could also be invited.

  20. A vote to invite Leonardo de Caprio is taken, the result of which is lost, but I hope it was a vote against as I’ll never spell it.

  21. Alison will write to the college people (what about cats?) to invite them. The joys of democracy... she’s not even here to vote on this!

  22. Anfony seconds a motion something to do with “Neighbours”. I’ve lost track of what, but Henry will do it. So there.

  23. A very amusing if somewhat unfortunate piece of (junk?) mail delivered to Selwyn Gardens for Mr. Jarrett is read. Does he still read the minutes? Putting the content of the letter on-line would soon let us find out. We decide not to reveal the precise details of the letter, just in case. Vicky has our sympathy though.

  24. Ben wanders off to buy a present for Emily Holden. I’m sure he’ll give her something for her birthday.

  25. The meeting degenerates into general chat, including the consequences of microwaving a CD.

  26. As we are looking out over the Market square, this is a perfect opportunity for getting visitors to decide a hung vote. Hence, we propose a vote that the next vote be hung. Unfortunately, this vote is itself hung. Rob leans out of the window, and asks a tourist to vote. She votes that the next vote WILL be hung.

  27. Someone suggests we start the reading. “Shall we wait for Ben?” asks someone else. “No!” replies the treasurer. At this point, Ben returns with a card for Emily.

  28. The stuff not written here hasn’t been minuted - official.

  29. “In which Pooh goes visiting and gets in a tight place”

  30. Rob’s version of the testaments doesn’t have a “very” in it.

  31. We make GCSE language listening-exam style beeping noises.

  32. Alan “has been grilled by a crack squad of apathetic Goths”

  33. A poem is read - “the dormouse and the doctor”.

  34. Vote to close passed.
