PEMBROKE COLLEGE WINNIE-THE-POOH SOCIETY

MINUTES OF THE ELEVENSES MEETING, 15/3/97

Held in somewhere secret and not recorded on the notes.
Present: Ben, Vicky, Stephen, Anthony, Rob, Sibylle, Alasdair, Ben's Mum and Aunt, Laurie and Bernard (whoever they might be, says the ignorant Secretary).
Apologies: Jon, Andrew.

  1. The meeting commences fifteen minutes late due to ineptitude in key-fetching.

  2. Sibylle reads `The Log of the Good Punt "The Lady Foundress"' slowly and with emphasis, as only she can. There is an attempt to vote for Rob to take over, but it is aborted because we forget to take it, Vicky's and Rob's attention having been diverted by a sticky patch on the table. Sibylle finally gives up and passes the Log to Anthony, who finally concludes it with much mystification as to whether Jon was actually writing in English or not.

  3. Rob reads the minutes of the last meeting.

  4. Rob makes a joke about apple turnover, which is considered poor by some present: a vote is taken to decide whether this was in fact so: F., 1, Ag., 3, Abs., 4. There is uproar when it is discovered that Bernard voted despite not being a member. It is therefore proposed that Bernard be allowed to vote for the duration of the meeting: F., 4, Ag., 1, Abs., 2; carried.

  5. Vote to censure the toaster for burning the Hot Cross Buns: F., 5, Ag., 0, Abs., 3; carried.

  6. Vote to censure Jon for not leaving us the letter from Sainsbury's: F., 6, Ag., 0, Abs., 1; carried. (I can't help noticing that that's one more person voting than last time; the addition of the note-taker needs improvement... Ed.)

  7. Anthony is asked if Hot Cross Buns exist, and everyone dives for cover.

  8. There is a debate about how to raise enough money to keep Sibylle here next year; the consensus appears to be that we should make her an Honorary Member so that she doesn't have to pay her Levy.

  9. Jon's syntax is ridiculed, same as normal.

  10. Ben reads the letter which he has sent to Lady Tomkys. Vote to congratulate Ben on the letter: F., 3, Ag., 2, Abs., 3; carried.

  11. Ben says he must go, and his aunt nods enthusiastically from behind the New Scientist.

  12. There's something about pink things that Vicky thought were something else, but I honestly cannot read what they were. I can tell you, though, that Sibylle announced that, "It's all just chemistry."

  13. The wall makes strange noises, and is accordingly laughed at.

  14. The reading is "In Which Christopher Robin and Pooh Come to an Enchanted Place, and We Leave Them There", read by Rob.

  15. Bernard leaves.

  16. Vicky suggests "keeping to the left in Elevenses invites, á la Rabbit", whatever that may mean.

  17. Eeyore gets a star part reading a self-composed poem.

  18. Rob suggests Eeyore demonstrates "humping off", but this would of course be acting, which is heretical and Sheila (spit!)-like.

  19. Ben's participation is greatly missed: many high-potential innuendoes get past relatively unnoticed (except by our note-taker, obviously... Ed.). Nonetheless, the reference to a "suction pump" cannot be ignored, especially when Pooh says he's "not getting it right".

  20. Vicky gives the usual thanks to the author in broken tones due to the great emotion the reading has brought on in her.

  21. Vote to close: F., 4, Ag., 1, Abs., 1; meeting closed.
