PEMBROKE COLLEGE WINNIE-THE POOH SOCIETY

Held in G22, West House, Homerton College.
Present: Jon, Yasmin, Claire, Chris, Sarah (friend of Yasmin and Claire) and George the Floppy Elephant
Apologies: Vicky Clarke (for being in London), Ben (for being in London), Vicky Jackson (for being in Hastings) and Kirsten (for being dead)

  1. The meeting is nearly given up on, Yasmin and Claire having given up waiting for people, when Jon finally manages to break his way into their house (aided by Sarah).

  2. Jon arrives in the kitchen therefore, spouting abuse about the directions. Claire goes to get Sarah.

  3. Yasmin has a really cool frog!

  4. We don't have a committee member present, so we decide that we'll have to open the meeting in the past, so that Jon can do it. However, this means we don't have enough members (all those present being much younger than he is) so we have to actually count the quorum from different points in time. Despite this totally defying the laws of physics, we manage to open the meeting.

  5. We debate posting Jaffa Cakes to Japan - it would be cheapest, we decide, to do without packaging, and just instruct the recipient to inhale them.

  6. Jon carefully doesn't go "ĄGosh!" at Claire, not having a licence.

  7. Jon downs a Jaffa Cake in one: Sarah challenges him to do the next one without chewing.

  8. Chris: "It's not long enough!"

  9. Everyone dons one of Yasmin's hats, and then removes them except Jon who feels too privileged.

  10. Yasmin has bells on!

  11. There is a great noise of whistles, duck calls, bells and a bonus squashed rat sound effect from Chris.

  12. The reading is: "In which Kanga and Baby Roo come to the forest and Piglet has a bath."

  13. Jon tells the story of how the boyfriend of Shell, the ex-President of the Australian Chapter, got his nickname.

  14. Sarah's voice is dying.

  15. Yasmin's brother passed his driving test. There are 'hurrahs' in a silly voice.

  16. Yasmin finds a lump on her head. Everyone is sympathetic.

  17. A strange man is spotted in the corridor, but Sarah and Claire are unable to catch him.

  18. Sarah, who has being doing sound-effects to the reading, starts to seriously part company with the planet. The dynamics are truly surprising.

  19. Jon gets cramp: he blames it on the hat, which he therefore removes.

  20. We attire the jester's hat that Chris is wearing with surplus CDs.

  21. Chris pretends to be a spy device. But we can all see him,, so perhaps he'd better keep the day job.

  22. When I was about to write this one down I suddenly got lost in votes and as a result have no idea what it was going to be. Probably the high point of the meeting knowing my memory. Oh well...

  23. Vote to allow Sarah to vote: F., 4, Ag., 0, Abs., 0; carried.

  24. Vote that the cake Claire has provided, which she insists on calling angel cake, is in fact stripey-cake: F., 3, Ag., 1, Abs., 1; carried. Claire gets quite stroppy about this.

  25. Claire slaps Jon for calling her puce.

  26. And then gets very embarrassed about it and blushes, which she then gets embarrassed about as well. She takes some time to recover.

  27. We discuss mutilating Barbie Dolls. Apparently Yasmin's brother used to do this and then sell her back the bits as spare parts: "second hand!" Thankyou, Yasmin, thank you very much indeed.

  28. Everyone gets suspicious about what Jon has written in the minutes and insists he read out his notes. Why they bother when I can change anything I like writing them up I don't know. For example:

  29. A small herd of pigmy elephants waltzes past the window, but only Jon notices and he can't tell anyone because a mouthful of cake. Even now I feel somehow sure that people won't believe me...

  30. Apparently Homerton's problems include a shortage of men: Jon agrees to advertise this by putting it in the minutes (this is actually true, this bit! Honest! You can check).

  31. Since it is getting on, we vote to close: F., 5, Ag., 0, Abs., 0; carried.
