Minutes of the Elevenses Meeting of the Pembroke College Winnie-the-Pooh Society
Held in CC32, Saturday 3rd October 1998
Present: Andrew, Jeremy, Tony, Chris, Yasmin, Claire, Alison, Anthony, Henry, Michael, Ben, Ben's mum, Jon, Stephen.
Apologies: Kirsten, Robert & Vicky (being on the wrong side of Dover).
- The meeting is open. it is realised that it is extra-constitutional, but why not hold a meeting?
- What is minute 21? Ben is keen to hide it from his mum...
- Michael reads the minutes of the last meeting. Minute 21 is about Ben, Michael, and a duvet...
- Jon arrives, now more-or-less officially a student. Hurrah! We discover that he is still being sent junk mail at 2 Selwyn Gardens.
- We read the minutes of the last but one meeting.
- Ben is censured, the first of many occasions this afternoon.
- We vote to allow Ben's mum to vote for the duration of the meeting.
- Ben uses Yasmin's style of saying "GOSH" without a licence from her. A vote to censure him is hung, and so we need a visitor. We kidnap Stephen Miller from across the corridor. Ben is censured, but Alison is not.
- There is applause for the quality of the minutes, which we finally manage to finish reading.
- Ben reads his letter to The Times. He is unanimously congratulated for it.
- We decide we will try to investigate the AA Milne Society which was alleged in a letter by an old Pembroke man to have once existed.
- Why was Michael in the Early Learning Centre? We discuss making ourselves unpopular by going to the ELC and waving our hands in from of the infra-red counter at the door, to annoy the staff. We decide against this plan. Stephen points out that "Centre" is spelt with a C rather than an S, as Andrew has hurriedly written it.
- Did we have a lovely holiday?
F6 A4 Ab4
It seems we did.
- We vote to censure the British Academy for funding incompetence, and Anthony tries to censure democracy. I'm sure voting to censure democracy must be missing some sort of point, somewhere.
- "The real power is in writing the minutes" someone says. I should deny this, but... at last, power.. .
- Becky Taylor arrives, looking for a piece of string. She leaves with Michael's keys, as a piece of string was not present at the meeting.
- Tony has shocking news. He has bought a season ticket for Cambridge United, so won't be able to come to many meetings. He wants to resign as Captain of Poohsticks. As the bureaucracy for this is too bad, he puts this move on hold.
- We plan manning of the Freshers' Fair stall.
- Ben will try to think of a "convincing reason" to get money from GAC.
- We censure France, but decide against writing to them all personally to tell them.
- Becky returns Michael's keys, and Vicky Jackson is declared "slightly quantum".
- Michael is censured for gross stupidity.
- Vicky finally arrives, and insinuates herself into the room. Her new e-mail address is TCRNBJA@ucl.ac.uk
- The Reading "In which Tigger comes to the Forest and has Breakfast"
Ben's mum reads Kanga. We thank her for reading it so well.
- We should write to the Master to get ourselves a piece in the Pembroke Gazette next year.
- The T-shirts have landed, but are "a bit dodgy". We can wear then for the squash, though.
- Anthony will book the Inner Parlour for next week's meeting.
- The vote to close is proposed, seconded and passed.
