Minutes of the Elevenses Meeting of the Pembroke College Winnie-the-Pooh Society... In which We are introduced to some Freshers, and the term begins.

Held in the Inner Parlour, Pembroke College, 10th October 1998

Present: Anthony, Tony, Jennifer*, Jenny, Jeremy, Michael, Ben, Jon, Alison, Andrew, Thomas*, Martin*, James*, Vicky, Henry (*Freshers)

Apologies: Kirsten, Vicky C, Andrew, Robert, Yasmin, Claire, Chris E.

  1. Ben opens the Meeting, at 4.05pm.

  2. Introductions.... Jon is not "...Esq." as he does not have a house. He is now officially back at Cambridge, and so has an NUS card - "all I came back for".

  3. Andrew arrives, despite having apologised, and the introductions continue.

  4. Thomas reads last week's minutes. There is a discussion as to whether Jon's cheque to pay for a T-shirt is valid.

  5. The Freshers present are given voting rights for the meeting.

  6. Henry arrives, followed by a fresher called James.

  7. Anthony cruelly and unfairly says "if anyone wants a cheap tart, Jenny will come round," and is quite rightly slapped for this slur on her perfect character. He deserved it.

  8. A committee meeting is opened, votes to set the Pooh Levy at £1, and closed.

  9. Henry only has 50p, so pays a Po levy. The oh will come next week.

  10. Is Christopher Robin God, or just a prophet, in the stories? We discuss this without any real conclusions, in true PoohSoc style. We think the North Pole represents the Graal, but Michael is then censured for bringing up non-Pooh material as the conversation turns mystical and magikal.

  11. Tony makes a resignation speech as he resigns as Captain of Poohsticks.

  12. Paddy Ashdown's slightly confused letter is read to the Freshers.

  13. The next meeting will be an EGM, with the posts of Foreign Secretary, Captain of Poohsticks and Roo up for grabs. Anthony then resigns as Pooh, boldly splitting infinitives all over the place as he does so.

  14. A vote of thanks to Anthony and Tony is passed.

  15. Vicky arrives. "I want Vicky's body", someone says.
    F5 A2 Ab5. Motion passed.... we want Vicky's body.

  16. At last...The Reading. "In which We are introduced to Winnie-the-Pooh and some Bees, and the Stories begin." All four Freshers read Christopher Robin together. Jon, as Pooh, "sang a little song to himself", which is met with applause.

  17. Hysteria - isn't that what you get in cheese? No, that's Holes.

  18. Another conversation about split infinitives follows. Henry will bring a copy of a Punch article AA Milne wrote on the subject.

  19. Anthony circulates various PoohSoc related photos from last year.

  20. We vote against letting "Loud Bird II" know what we are doing this year, in case she turns up.

  21. A vote to close is passed. Next week's meeting to be in B3, Ben's room.
