The Ninth And A Halfth Anniversary Dinner

The President's Speech

(Owen Barritt 1 February 2003)

What-nots and Etceteras, before I begin, or perhaps I should say, before I end, I have a few thank yous to make in the style of A.A. Milne.

Hush! Hush! Whisper who dares!
The President of the society is thanking some bears.
(well not really bears, more like people, but that wouldn’t rhyme and now this doesn’t scan. Bother!)

Thanks be to the Wrong Honourable James Lloyd PCWtPS(Hons)
Who’s name is so long, it stops that line scanning properly and now this doesn’t either. Bother!
Well, don’t blame me for the poor quality of the poetry.
This writing business Pencils and what-not. Over-rated, if you ask me. Silly Stuff. Nothing in it.
Therefore I shall just quickly thank everybody and then concentrate on the last verse.

Thanks to James for suggesting the dinner

Thanks to Pembroke for letting us hold it here.

Thanks to the rest of the committee and everyone else who helped with the organisation

Thanks to all of you for coming

Thanks to the sky for snowing on us
Tiddely-pom
Only don't blame me!

Thanks to Helen and the other founder members for founding the society in the first place

And finally, thanks to Pooh and all the other bears, just for being bears and making the last verse of this actually work.

Hush! Hush! Whisper who dares!
The President of the society has just thanked some bears.
